The Reds lost the first game of their series against the New York Mets on Monday night 6-4, as the team will look to finish off their road trip on a positive note.
The Mets got on the board in the first inning as first baseman Wilmer Flores hit an RBI single, followed by third baseman Todd Frazier getting an RBI single and center fielder Austin Jackson hitting another RBI single to take a 3-0 lead. In the fourth, they tacked on two more runs with a solo home run by catcher Kevin Plawecki and another RBI single by Flores. The sixth saw Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil hit a solo homer, but the Reds would make a comeback in the seventh beginning with an RBI single by shortstop Jose Peraza, followed by an RBI bases loaded walk by first baseman Joey Votto and a two RBI single by third baseman Eugenio Suarez, however that would be all as the Mets took the 6-4 win.
Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard went six and a third innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits and a walk to take the win. Reds starter Homer Bailey went three and a third innings in the loss, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits with no walks. Mets reliever Jerry Blevins took the save.
The teams will play again on Tuesday night.
