The Reds fell to the Detroit Tigers in the first game of a two game set on Tuesday night 2-1, as Reds starting pitcher Homer Bailey was perfect through the first three and two-thirds innings but the offense struggled in the loss.
The Tigers were the first to get on the board and broke up the perfect game by Bailey with a solo home run from second baseman Niko Goodrum in the fourth inning. The score remained there until the eighth inning, when the Tigers added another run with left fielder Mike Gerber getting his first career hit as well as his first RBI with an RBI double. While the Reds would cut the lead in half in the ninth inning as third baseman Eugenio Suarez got an RBI sacrifice fly, however the Tigers would still go on to take the 2-1 victory.
Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd went eight innings, allowing just four hits with one walk with no earned runs in the win, while Bailey allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk as he took the loss.
The Reds will go for the series split on Wednesday afternoon.
