The Reds were swept against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon, as the Cubs closed out the series with a 9-0 win.
The game started out with a big first inning for the Cubs, as catcher Willson Contreras hit an RBI groundout, followed by an RBI triple from right fielder Jason Heyward and an RBI single by third baseman David Bote to go up 3-0. The third saw the Cubs add to their lead with a two run home run from Bote and in the fifth Heyward got an RBI single to help the Cubs take a 6-0 advantage. In the seventh, first baseman Anthony Rizzo came home for the Cubs on a balk, followed by a two run shot by left fielder Kyle Schwarber as they went on to take the 9-0 win as well as complete the series sweep.
Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks went seven innings allowing no earned runs on just two hits and a walk as he took the win, while Reds starter Homer Bailey was faced with the loss with five innings pitched, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and no walks.
The Reds will next play on Tuesday night at home against the Milwaukee Brewers.
