The Reds lost the final game of their four game series against the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon 2-1.
The game started out with the Nationals getting the first run across on a solo home run from catcher Matt Wieters in the second inning, followed by the Nationals doubling the lead in the third inning on an RBI double by center fielder Bryce Harper. While the Reds would go on to cut the lead in half in the fourth inning, as right fielder Mason Williams hit an RBI double, neither team would score again for the remainder of the game as the Nationals took the 2-1 win and the series victory.
Nationals starting pitcher Tanner Roark went seven innings to take the win, allowing just one earned run on seven hits but no walks, while Reds starter Luis Castillo went five and a third innings, allowing a pair of earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks on the way to the loss. Nationals reliever Kelvin Herrera earned the save.
The Reds will next play on Monday night to kick off a three game series on the road against the New York Mets.
