The Reds were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-2 on Sunday afternoon, however the Reds still won the series after victories on Friday and Saturday.
The Diamondbacks started off the game with a big first inning, as third baseman Daniel Descalso hit a three run home run, however the Reds came back in the second with an RBI fielder’s choice from left fielder Preston Tucker to make it a 3-1 game. The third saw the Reds cut the lead in half as first baseman Joey Votto hit an RBI sacrifice fly, but the rest of the game would be all Diamondbacks as first baseman Paul Goldschmidt hit a two run homer in the sixth, followed by a big ninth inning that saw a two run shot by third baseman Eduardo Escobar and solo home runs from Goldschmidt as well as left fielder David Peralta to allow the Diamondbacks to claim the 9-2 victory.
Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zack Godley went six and two thirds innings in the win, allowing one earned run on six hits and one walk. Reds starter Luis Castillo went five and two thirds innings in the loss, giving up five earned runs on five hits and one walk.
The Reds will next play on Monday night to kick off a three game home series against the Cleveland Indians.
