The Reds took down the Chicago Cubs 11-2 on Saturday afternoon, as the team will look to go for the sweep as they won Thursday and Friday’s games as well.
The Reds got on the board in the first inning after catcher Tucker Barnhart hit a two run home run to give the team an early advantage, however that advantage would get cut in half not long after as Cubs catcher Willson Contreras hit a solo homer in the second inning. The third inning saw the Reds start to pull away, though, as second baseman Scooter Gennett hit an RBI double, followed by another RBI single courtesy of third baseman Eugenio Suarez, however the big play of the inning came when starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani hit a grand slam homer to make it an 8-1 lead. In the sixth, the Cubs got a run back as second baseman Ben Zobrist had a solo shot, but the Reds would come back in the eighth with a three run homer by first baseman Joey Votto to win it 11-2.
DeSclafani took the win, pitching six and a third innings while allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks. Cubs starter Luke Farrell went two and two-thirds innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits and two walks in the loss.
The teams will finish out their series on Sunday afternoon.
