The Reds lost the first game of their series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night 6-4 after taking the last two games of their previous series against the Atlanta Braves.
The game started out with the Reds going ahead in the first inning, when shortstop Jose Peraza hit a leadoff home run followed by an RBI double by third baseman Eugenio Suarez to make it a 2-0 game. However, the Brewers tied it in the third on a two run homer by first baseman Jesus Aguilar. The Reds responded in the bottom of the inning on a two run shot by right fielder Jesse Winker, but that would be all the offense for the Reds as Brewers right fielder Eric Thames hit a three run home run to take the lead in the seventh and adding another run in the ninth on an RBI sacrifice fly by second baseman Eric Sogard as the Brewers went on to take the 6-4 win.
Brewers starting pitcher Junior Guerra went six innings in the win, giving up four earned runs on eight hits and one walk in the process. Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani pitched six and a third innings allowing four earned runs along with five hits and a walk as he got a no decision. Reds reliever Amir Garrett was hit with the loss as well as a blown save, while Brewers reliever Corey Knebel earned the save.
The teams will play again on Friday night.
