The Reds took down the Kansas City Royals 7-0 on Wednesday night to win both games of their two game set.
The game began with the teams going scoreless through the beginning of the game, similar to Tuesday night’s game, however, the Reds got on the board in the seventh inning on a run scoring fielding error hit into by second baseman Scooter Gennett, followed by an RBI groundout by left fielder Jesse Winker. The Reds continued the offense into the eighth on an RBI single by shortstop Jose Peraza, but the big breakthrough came in the ninth as first baseman Adam Duvall hit a grand slam home run to go on to give the Reds the 7-0 win.
Reds starting pitcher Tyler Mahle went six and a third innings to earn the win, allowing just three hits and a pair of walks with no earned runs. Royals starter Jason Hammel allowed two earned runs on seven hits and no walks in the loss.
“Tyler did a great job. The bullpen did a great job,” Reds manager Jim Riggleman said. “We got some timely hits, good at-bats, good defense. It was a really well-played, well-pitched two ballgames here.”
The Reds will next play on Friday night on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
