The Reds defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-5 on Wednesday afternoon to win the series after taking Tuesday night’s game as well.
The Reds got on the board first with an RBI single from center fielder Billy Hamilton in the second inning, followed by a solo homer from shortstop Jose Peraza in the third. However, the Braves turned the momentum around in the fourth as catcher Kurt Suzuki, third baseman Charlie Culberson, second baseman Johan Camargo and shortstop Dansby Swanson each hit RBI singles to bring it to a 4-2 Braves lead.
The Reds cut the lead in half in the fifth as first baseman Brandon Dixon hit an RBI single of his own, however, the Braves responded in the bottom of the inning with Culberson taking advantage of a fielding error to drive in a run. The Reds came back in the seventh as second baseman Scooter Gennett got an RBI single and left fielder Adam Duvall came through with the eventual winning run coming across on a two RBI single, as the Reds went on to win 6-5.
Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo went four innings in the no decision, giving up four earned runs on six hits and one walk. Braves starter Sean Newcomb went six innings, also getting the no decision allowing three earned runs on seven hits and a pair of walks. Reds reliever Jackson Stephens earned the win, while Braves reliever Sam Freeman was hit with the loss and fellow Braves reliever Dan Winkler was hit with a blown save. Reds reliever Raisel Iglesias earned the save.
The Reds will next play on Thursday night at home against the Milwaukee Brewers.
