The Reds took the second game of their series against the New York Mets 6-1 on Tuesday night, as the teams will play in the rubber match on Wednesday afternoon after the Mets took the first game on Monday.
The game started out strong for the Reds as second baseman Scooter Gennett hit an RBI single, left fielder Phillip Ervin hit an RBI sacrifice fly and catcher Tucker Barnhart hit an RBI single in the first inning to give the Reds a 3-0 lead. However, the Mets would cut into the lead in the second inning as right fielder Jose Bautista hit an RBI single.
The third saw Ervin add to the Reds advantage with a two run home run, but neither team would score again until the ninth, when Reds pinch hitter Dilson Herrera hit a solo homer as the Reds took the 6-1 victory to even up the series.
Reds starting pitcher Sal Romano went six innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks to get the win. Mets starter Jason Vargas struggled, only going one-third of an inning, allowing three earned runs on three hits with no walks in the loss.
The teams will go for the series victory on Wednesday afternoon.
