The Reds beat the Detroit Tigers 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon to take both games of their two game series.
However, the Tigers got on the board first as third baseman Jeimer Candelario hit a first inning solo home run, then continued the momentum in the fourth as first baseman Niko Goodrum hit another solo homer. The Reds would come back in the sixth, though, as second baseman Scooter Gennett hit a two run shot to tie the game up, followed by a tie-breaking homer from third baseman Eugenio Suarez. The Reds added an insurance run in the seventh as catcher Tucker Barnhart hit an RBI single, but the Tigers cut the advantage in half in the eighth with shortstop Jose Iglesias getting an RBI single, which the Reds responded to in the bottom of the inning with left fielder Adam Duvall hitting a solo homer to go on to give the Reds the 5-3 win.
Reds starting pitcher Tyler Mahle went six innings in the win, giving up five hits and four walks in the process, while Tigers starter Michael Fulmer went five and two-thirds innings and allowed five hits and a pair of walks on the way to the loss. Reds reliever Raisel Iglesias took the save.
The Reds will continue their homestand on Thursday night against the Chicago Cubs.
