The Reds completed their series sweep against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon with an 11-4 win after winning on Friday and Saturday as well.
The game started out promisingly for the Giants as they had the opening run in the second as left fielder Gorkys Hernandez hit an RBI sacrifice fly, but the Reds followed with a big third inning as catcher Curt Casali hit an RBI double to tie it up, center fielder Billy Hamilton hit an RBI sacrifice fly to take the lead and second baseman Scooter Gennett hit a two RBI triple. The inning continued with third baseman Eugenio Suarez hitting a two run home run and Casali tacking on his second RBI of the inning with an RBI single. The scoring would stop until the sixth, which saw Reds shortstop Jose Peraza add a two run homer. In the seventh, however, the Giants started to chip away at the lead as Hernandez drove in a run on an error and pinch hitter Hunter Pence had an RBI double, but the Reds responded in the bottom of the inning as Hamilton had a two RBI triple. In the eighth, the Giants added an RBI double by pinch hitter Chase d’Arnaud, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Reds claimed the 11-4 victory.
Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo earned the win, pitching six and two-thirds innings allowing one earned run on six hits but no walks, while Giants starter Andrew Suarez allowed five earned runs on seven hits and a pair of walks over two and two-thirds innings in the loss.
The Reds will next play on Monday night on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers.
