The Reds lost in the rubber game of their series against the Colorado Rockies 8-2 on Sunday afternoon, as the team will start out the first leg of their west coast road trip with a series loss.
The game started well for the Reds, as second baseman Scooter Gennett hit a first inning solo home run, but the Rockies came back in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer from left fielder David Dahl and a two run shot from right fielder Carlos Gonzalez to make it a 3-1 game.
The score remained that way until the sixth, as Rockies center fielder Charlie Blackmon hit an RBI single and third baseman Nolan Arenado hit a two run homer. The Rockies then followed that inning up with a two run homer in the seventh off the bat of first baseman Ian Desmond and while the Reds would score another run in the ninth as shortstop Jose Peraza came home on a wild pitch, but the Rockies hung on to win 8-2.
Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez threw seven innings, giving up just one earned run on five hits and two walks to earn the win, while Reds starter Matt Harvey allowed four earned runs on nine hits and a pair of walks over the course of five and a third innings in the loss.
The Reds will next play on Monday afternoon on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
