The Reds were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 on Friday night, as the Brewers will clinch at least a split of the four game series after taking the game on Thursday as well.
The game started out with Brewers center fielder Keon Broxton scoring an RBI single in the second inning, followed by Broxton coming back again in the fourth to hit a solo home run. In the sixth, the Reds cut the lead in half on a solo shot by relief pitcher Michael Lorenzen, but the Brewers responded in the eighth as Broxton scored while shortstop Orlando Arcia was caught in a rundown and was eventually tagged out. The Brewers pulled away in the ninth with right fielder Hernan Perez hitting a two RBI double, catcher Manny Pina getting an RBI single and Broxton capping his strong effort off with a two run homer. While the Reds would get a run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by third baseman Eugenio Suarez, it wouldn’t be enough as the Brewers took it 8-2.
Brewers starting pitcher Chase Anderson threw six innings, allowing just one earned run on two hits and one walk to get the win. Reds starter Sal Romano took the loss, as he went five innings allowing two earned runs over seven hits and a pair of walks.
The teams will play again on Saturday afternoon.
