The Reds lost the last game of their series against the Chicago Cubs 6-5 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon, allowing the Cubs to win the series.
The game began with Cubs shortstop Addison Russell getting a two RBI double in the second inning to put the Cubs ahead early, but the Reds responded in the third as shortstop Jose Peraza hit an RBI single and third baseman Eugenio Suarez smacked a two run home run in the fourth to take the lead. In the bottom of the inning, however, the Cubs fought right back as Russell hit an RBI groundout, but the Reds came back in the fifth with center fielder Billy Hamilton coming home on a stolen base and a pair of fielding errors. In the seventh, the Cubs regained the lead as second baseman Javier Baez hit a two RBI single, but the Reds responded once again as left fielder Adam Duvall hit a solo homer in the ninth inning, however the Cubs went on to win 6-5 in the tenth as third baseman David Bote drew the game winning bases loaded walk.
Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester went six and a third innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits and three walks in the no decision. Reds starter Luis Castillo went four innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks in a no decision as well. Cubs reliever Luke Farrell earned the win, while Reds reliever Jackson Stephens took the loss. Cubs reliever Brandon Morrow and Reds reliever David Hernandez each took a blown save.
The Reds will next play on Monday night on the road against the Cleveland Indians.
